Manfred Gentzler lives in a small rural town but the Nazi Party extends everywhere and blows his former life apart.
An unwilling soldier, he experiences World War II in the German Wehrmacht. Present at the siege of Leningrad he’s eventually taken prisoner and ends in a Prisoner of War camp in Northumberland.
With roots in enormous hardship, inflation and uncertainty the politics of ultra-nationalism had crushed his personal life and in time displaced millions of people through war. This affected even those he grew up with and loved.
In a foreign land, though having lost all he’d held dear Manfred is touched by humanity and finds new horizons.
