York City FC and Bootham Crescent have been intrinsically linked since 1932, when the club moved from Fulfordgate.
Progress and setbacks had featured regularly during the first 60 years, and this third and final volume recalls that period before continuing the story from the summer of 1993 when the club was again on an upward curve.
Three turbulent decades followed with the emergence of Bootham Crescent Holdings Limited, and its actions in the early years of the new millennium imperilled the club and ground. Against the odds both survived, but there would be no escaping the reality that the club’s days at its spiritual home were now numbered as the search began for its third permanent ground.
Using photographs, news cuttings, and memorabilia, this book describes the many battles against adversity endured by the club and its supporters, but also celebrates some remarkable achievements on and off the field. It also chronicles Bootham Crescent’s final years, the elongated timeline of York City’s eventual move into the LNER Community Stadium in 2021, and a remarkable first three seasons at the new venue.
For City supporters, as with the club, Bootham Crescent was indeed a cherished second home.
