When Skeletons Rise

11 year old Arlo Skinner has had an unsettled life ever since his dad went

missing in London. He has tried to adjust to a new life in a Cornish village,

since moving there with his mum, but he finds it hard to make friends and

trust people. With the help of his teacher, Mr Murray, and two boys at

school, he begins to relax a little and starts to have hope for the future.

Another turning point is reached when an old sailor skeleton is dug up,

feeding his obsession for everything 'pirate'. He becomes aware that other

sailor skeletons are hidden beneath Cornish soil, and the history of the crew

of one shipwreck completely absorbs him. Alongside his new life in

Cornwall, new revelations about his family rise to the surface, and Arlo fears

a family secret will ruin the new start he is beginning to embrace.
