One house, three centuries, four families and two schools.
This is the captivating story of Baldersby Park, written by six distinctive voices, each unveiling the building’s rich history over the past three centuries.
Learn of its conception: built by the Robinson family, this majestic building was the first Palladian mansion house in Great Britain and at its zenith, was home to Lord and Lady Grantham and over 100 domestic staff and groundsmen.
Discover the rise and fall of Baldersby Park’s second owner, George Hudson, the ‘Railway King’, once one of England’s richest men, but eventually forced to sell his beloved home through bankruptcy.
This collaborative book is a journey through time, unearthing the secrets, triumphs, tribulations and successes that echo within the walls of a building that has stood witness to three hundred years of change. Follow the story from its inception as a large country house to its use as the home of Queen Mary’s School in the present day.
