For over fifty years D Mark Thompson has worked as a Yorkshire Dales based artist capturing the topography of the region in a variety of mediums. Here he talks to Frederic Manby about his formative years and influences, giving us an insight into his first one man and group exhibitions. This book features a collection of early drawings, illustrations and etchings from his time as a schoolboy and art student, to his initial years as a practising artist. Not only do they retrace time spent recording aspects of place and people of a rural England now lost forever. Whether in Devon, Suffolk, the Yorkshire Dales or North York Moors, they allow us an insight into the workings, inspirations and development of the artist.
In recent years D Mark Thompson has spent his time working between his studios in Wensleydale and Cornwall. In 2018 Heart of the Dales was published featuring his black and white photographs from the 70s and 80s.
